Your Table Is Waiting
The Grill at 1951 is a new restaurant in the Port Charlotte area. David Eger purchased JD’s Bistro and Grill in December of 2019. The focus of The Grill at 1951 will be on bringing the basics back with excellent food and great service. The menu is well rounded with great cuts of Angus beef, fresh seafood and rich pasta dishes. Prices are less than or equal to the ‘big house franchises’, but there is just no comparison in the quality.
The ambiance is casual fine dining with jazz two nights during the week.. Lunch is served seven days a week with a wide variety of items to choose from including house made soups, delicious salads and sandwiches including New Orleans staples, like the Muffuletta and fried Shrimp Po’ Boy. There are also classics like a French Dip and a fresh Grouper Sandwich. Lunch also includes a nice selection of appetizer choices from “Good and Evil” Chicken Wings to Tuna Nachos. Dinner will also be served seven nights a week. The dinner menu also has a wide selection of appetizers, soups and salads as well as steaks, chops, pasta and seafood. The Grill at 1951 has added small plate options in addition to the regular size dinners for those who would like to try a few items at a time or just want a smaller portion for dinner. The Grill at 1951 is a casual dining experience with a full service bar, televisions that display art and also news and sporting events. We believe it’s worth the trip over the bridge from Punta Gorda or coming south from Sarasota and we strive to be a destination everyone will be talking about as a must in this area.
The Food & Who Does It:
Chef Bobby Holt is meticulous about great tasting and creative food. Bobby arrived in the Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda area in December, 2019, after working several years at ‘Beyond the Sea’ in Bolton Landing NY on Lake George. Bobby developed a following there and elevated the restaurant to new levels. Previously, Bobby worked in Saratoga Springs, NY where he developed a great reputation and an avid following.
Bobby was accompanied to Florida by his lifelong companion Penny. We are fortunate that Penny will work as the General Manager of ‘The Grill at 1951. Penny has been in the restaurant business for most of her life, as well as the floral industry. You can expect great service and a warm and welcoming environment on the front end of the restaurant.
Backing up Bobby In the kitchen, memorable mentions are Kellen White who is in his own right, an established and extremely talented chef. Kellon was the head chef at JDs for the past couple of years and was responsible for the culinary delights that JDs became known for. Also, Bobby has hired an excellent lunch Chef, Antonio Barbosa who will be a great addition to the team. Dawn Verdeschi was the previous manager of JD’s Bistro and Grill and has decided to join the team as the bar manager. Dawn is also a transplant from upstate New York and moved to this area four years ago. She is a great addition to the team and will continue her excellent and welcoming customer service.
Come in and try the new menu at The Grill at 1951. We are sure you will not be disappointed and will leave wanting to come back and tell all your friends.
